In their quest to find the Star and the Lanthorn, Aevea and Aarubus travel the deep Southern Aldromedan ocean aboard the Strangelander in search of the fabled Aisle of Veluria, home of Nuit, the Goddess of the Night (and Aevea's sister), who it is rumored, now possesses the Star and the Lanthorn (which were both given to Aevea in the eldest days).
But Veluria lies on the Sempiternal Plane of Night which intersects the Aldromedan Ocean at 90 degrees, an infinite wall of unsurpassable darkness and the bane of many ships, including the infamous Anvil of the Gods. But Veluria's guards and wards extend far beyond the wall, as described in this old song by Izel Demorio:
Blacker than the dead of night and higher than the Sun,
The Wall of Gloom may be your doom, yet upwards you must run.
Seven storms like seven horns-a-blowing, you must fight
If you shall win the Aisle of the Goddess of the Night.
But, Aarubus, through his uncle Eldred (Nuit's son) has discovered the Naeturbru (ny-ter-brew) - the Night Bridge, a great, black, inverted cosmic arch, said to be the other side of the famous rainbow bridge, Bifrost, but only visible and tangible for a few fleeting minutes at certain times. The Naeturbru can be used like a vast ramp to shift from the material ocean to the Ocean of the Night. It has been accomplished, thus far, by only Eldred who discovered it and used it to leave Veluria.
And so, directed by Aarubus, the Strangelander charges full-sail towards the towering black wall to ride the Night Bridge high up into the Sempiternal Ocean of the Night.
